The SMU women’s tennis team heads to Waco this weekend to participate in the Baylor Invitational. The tournament is the opening of the 2006 season for the women. The Invitational, which is hosted by the Baylor Bears, includes TCU, Louisville, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech and Wyoming. The Mustangs head to the tournament with five returning players and six incoming freshmen; returning players include Natalia Bubien, Jennifer Chay, Kristen Reid, Georgiana Marta and Monica Nevekloska. At last year’s Baylor Invitational, Bubien advanced to the semi-finals of the singles draw and Kristen Reid defeated UTA’s No. 1 player to advance to the round of 16, where she fell to a Baylor singles player. Baylor won both the singles and doubles main draws in the 2005 tournament.
The Mustangs play in Waco Sept. 15-17, and then head to Denton on Sept. 22, to play in the North Texas Invitational.
