Heartbroken fan
Dear Editor:
I am heartbroken to hear that a team so talented and intelligentis no longer in existence.
My name is Nelson Morales Jr., a DePaul Track and Field alumwho, at my beginnings in track, looked to SMU’s men’strack and field program as a model to be replicated.
Learning to throw the hammer came as a direct result of LiborCharffitag’s amazing performances time and timeagain.
I would leave a meet and wish I could be a part of theSMU program.
They took track and field to another level that was beyondcomprehension by myself or my teammate Carey Ryan, who went onto be a three-time All American. He spent countless hours reviewingthe footage of your athletes’ performances.
Despite SMU’s domination of Division I track andfield, there was one thing I noticed — how the relationshipscarried on with other teammates were alive and close.
I hope that SMU can bring back the men’s program so thatgenerations to come can experience the joy of watching human beingsachieve incredible feats of athleticism, brotherhood and enjoyment.I observed this interaction many times whether competing orsocializing.
I will never forget you guys for making me a better athlete.
