March 17U.S., Britain and Spain withdraw resolution. U.N. orders inspectors to leave Iraq; President Bush gives ultimatum to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and his sons to leave the country or face military action.
March 19Seventeen Iraqi soldiers crossed the border into Kuwait and surrendered prior to the American deadline.
Zero hour arrives and the White House announces that Saddam Hussein and his sons have not left the country, according to CIA reports.
America launches a surgical strike against a specific target in downtown Baghdad. The president spoke to the public at 9:15 p.m. central standard time about the attack stating that they believe key Iraqi personnel were in the building which was attacked at 8:30 p.m. central standard time.
