SMU star wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. will be returning to the program next season.
In a Twitter post this afternoon, the senior announced that he would not be entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Much of this is due, he noted, to two injury riddled seasons that have forced him to miss 13 games.
“The last two seasons haven’t gone as I planned…” Roberson wrote on Twitter. “I also understand that there is more to life than football and I have to prepare for life after ball. The first step to that is getting a degree from this prestigious university.”
Roberson was widely considered to be an NFL prospect going into last season. But, on Oct. 3 against Memphis, he went down with a season-ending non-contact injury to his knee.
Prior to that, Roberson had led the team in receiving and touchdowns. He finished 2020 with 22 receptions, 474 yards and five touchdowns.
“I have a lot left to accomplish as a student-athlete… I will be returning to the Hilltop,” he said.
