The SMU men’s golf team heads to Wayzata, Minn., this weekend to participate in the Gopher Invitational. The golf team faces schools such as the University of Denver, Notre Dame, Indiana University, Stanford and Ohio State. Last year, the Mustangs finished 10th overall at the tournament.

Senior golfer Colt Knost was recently tabbed as a pre-season All-American by Golfweek magazine. At last year’s Gopher Invitational, Knost tied for 24th individually after struggling on the final day of the tournament.

In addition to Knost, senior Brandon DeStefano returns for the Mustangs this year. After a solid junior season, DeStefano is expected to be a strong contributor to the lineup this year. With Knost and DeStefano leading the team, the six new freshmen have big shoes to fill.

After the Gopher Invitational, the SMU men’s golf team heads to Birmingham, Ala., to play in the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate tournament on Sept. 25.
