Many students make use of the Bridwell Library since it is known for its noiseless atmosphere; however this library is not just another place to study on campus. It also doubles as a theological museum. At the beginning of this week, the library opened a new exhibit entitled “Welcome Additions: Bridwell Library’s Recent Acquisitions in Context.”
It runs throughout the rest of the fall semester and presents 28 manuscripts, printed books and literary fragments, which have been added to various collections in Bridwell Library. These new items range in date from 1459 to 1774 and are displayed alongside closely related treasures long held by the library.
The exhibit closes on Dec. 12.
According to Tessa Foreman, a staff employee at the library, all of the items in the “Welcome Additions” exhibit are Bridwell-owned items. This is rare since items are usually on loan from other museums or interchanged between museums for art exhibits. The purpose of the exhibit is to show “how a lot of the new acquisitions interrelate with past items,” Foreman said.
Anyone looking to check out the new exhibit should head over to the Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Galleries located downstairs in the Bridwell Library. The exhibition is free and is open during usual library hours.
