Congratulations, you have successfully made it through your first week of classes! If you’re like most college students, you’ve probably already found yourself overwhelmed with the balancing act of classes, exercise, a social life and time management. Just one week into school and you’re already counting down to this upcoming three-day weekend.
Trust us; we are too, which is why we’re so excited about The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Yoga Community’s free day of yoga. Over 200 classes will be held this Monday, Sept. 7; from 5:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. We’ll happily swap our academic lectures for these stress-relieving classes.
Yoga’s focus on deep-breathing triggers the body’s relaxation response, decreasing anxiety. More scientifically, the practice helps reduce catecholamines – the body’s hormonal reaction to stress.
“Yoga positions distract people from daily rituals and whatever stresses them. The mind’s focus on poses replaces whatever is on their mind,” Susie Farnick of the GoodBody Wellness Center explained. “Yoga’s major focus is relaxation and harmony.”
Not only does yoga clear your mind, but it simultaneously benefits your body, making your organs more efficient and muscles more effective. And yoga is not just for the young and flexible; it is for everyone, males and females alike – one class and you’ll be hooked.
The best part about this Labor Day event is that classes are free the whole day. How’s that for staying fit on a college-friendly budget?
