The SMU cross country team was unable to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational this weekend due to rainy weather and poor course conditions.
College Station took all preventative measures to ensure the meet started on schedule, but even a revised course was not available, as rain continued to fall throughout the day and night.
“Texas A&M officials did not feel the integrity of the course could be maintained if competed on under current conditions,” according to a press release on smumustangs.com.
The race has not been rescheduled.
Last season, SMU finished in second place out of 12 teams in the race, with junior Silje Fjortoft finishing the 5000-meter course in 16:33:03, more than 40 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Prior to last weekend’s cancelled event, SMU finished in first place at the TCU Cross Country Opener on Sept. 5
The Mustangs’ next event will be on Sept.19 at the North Texas Invitational in Denton.
