The SMU men’s soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in the C-USA tournament, which kicks off today in Tulsa, Okla. After earning the regular season conference title with a victory over Marshall, the Mustangs will take on No. 8 Tulsa in the first round of the post-season tournament today at noon.
In addition to a top seed in the tournament, two Mustangs received conference honors: sophomore midfielder Bruno Guarda was named C-USA Player of the Year and senior defender Jay Needham was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. Head coach Schellas Hyndman was named the C-USA Coach of the Year for keeping his team at the top of the national rankings for most of the season.
Five Mustangs were named to the C-USA First Team All-Conference: Bruno Guarda, Chase Wileman, Mynor Gonzalez, Jay Needham and Matt Wideman. Junior Adrian Chevannes was named to the C-USA Second Team All-Conference.
If SMU defeats Tulsa, they will face the winner of the contest between No. 4 UTEP and No. 5 Colorado College.
SMU is now ranked No. 2 nationally with Wake Forest taking the top spot this week.
