Meadows Museum Plaza to be renovated
Construction begins Monday on the new plaza for the Meadows Museum and is expected to take six months.
The museum can be accessed from the parking garage and elevators.
The renovations include demolishing and creating a new access stairway in the front; 9,000 square feet of grass and stone pavement with benches; 15 large, movable planters; 8 large stationary planters containing trees; glass railings, and 4 overlooks.
Funding has been provided by Nancy Hamon, the Meadows Foundation and the McDermott Foundation, as well as additional funding for the Wave overlook from Dr. and Mrs. Richard Irwin.
Spanish artist and architect Santiago Calatrava, who designed the Wave sculpture, and Thomas Krähenbühl of TKTR architects designed the renovation.
“We wanted to create an inviting space for SMU students and the community, while providing a fitting site to showcase the museum’s important collection of modern outdoor sculptures,” Dr. Mark Roglán, museum director, said on the museum’s Web site. Meadows Museum Plaza to be renovated
