SMU defeated Tulsa 2-0 on Wednesday night at Westcott Field.
The SMU men’s soccer team hopes to take its impressive winning streak on the road this weekend as they head to the University of Central Florida. The Mustangs are ranked No. 1 in all four college polls again this week with a 13-0-1 record for the season.
The team notched its third C-USA victory on Wednesday night as it defeated rival Tulsa 2-0.
The Golden Knights are 3-7-1 for the season and 1-2-1 in conference play. UCF fell to No. 2 Kentucky on Wednesday 2-1. The Mustangs played UCF last year, beating them 1-0. SMU’s performance against Tulsa on Wednesday demonstrated, yet again, the team’s defensive strengths with goalkeeper Matt Wideman making five saves.
The offense dominated the first half with two goals, but appeared tired and inconsistent in the second half. UCF’s Zack Boggs will be on the attack looking for his fourth goal of the season. In UCF’s victories over Memphis and Furman, the sophomore scored the team’s only goals.
The Golden Knights, however, have been shut out in three of its losses and haven’t scored more than two goals in any game. SMU standouts Adrian Chevannes and Jay Needham can be counted on to play an integral part in the SMU offense.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the UCF soccer complex. The Mustangs return to Dallas to take on South Carolina on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
