The SMU women’s soccer team is now the No. 22 team in the nation. The new poll from socceramerica.com came out on Monday. This is the first time the Mustangs have reached the top 25 this season. The Mustangs are the only ranked Conference USA team.
The women’s soccer team has now won seven games in a row, including their first three in C-USA.
SMU traveled to Tulsa and came away with a 1-0 victory. The Mustangs are now undefeated on the road in six games, including five wins and one tie. The Mustangs were able to do it again with defense, only needing one goal to defeat the Golden Hurricane.
The shutout was goalkeeper Ashley Gunter’s sixth of the season and the eighth on the year for the Mustangs.
The goal came from freshman Kim Peabody midway through the first half. Peabody received a through pass from Alyssa Pembroke 12 yards from the goal and put it into the back of the net.
The goal was Peabody’s second of the season, and it was Pembroke’s first assist and first point of the season.
The women’s soccer team will continue their C-USA road trip later this week when they travel to Houston to face the 7-7 Cougars on Friday, and then the 9-3-1 Rice Owls on Sunday.
