Two missed Thomas Morstead field goals combined with losing a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter meant a heartbreaking and potentially season altering loss for the Mustangs Saturday.
SMU only scored a field goal and UTEP scored a touchdown in the overtime period to give the Miners a 48-45 win.
The loss drops SMU to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in conference. SMU needed to win all of its remaining home games to have a realistic chance at achieving its goal – going to a bowl game.
