The No. 7 ranked SMU women’s swim team participated in the US Open Nov. 30-Dec. 2 alongside some of the country’s strongest talent.
Sophomore Petra Klosova had a strong performance in both the 50 yd. and 100 yd. freestyle events. She took ninth in the 50 yd. freestyle with a time of 26.26. After the 100 yd. freestyle prelims, Klosova was seeded first, along with Teresa Wilson (unattached). Neither took first in the finals, but Klosova hit the wall second, clocking in at 56.39.
SMU senior Michelle Vlasakova took 45th place with a time of 58.96 and teammate Celina Lemmen came in a 59.11 for 47th place. Lemmen also swam the 200 yd. freestyle where she finished 21st with a time of 2:05.46.
The Mustangs had two current swimmers in the 100 yd. butterfly event, Justine Clark and Angela San Juan Cisneros. Clark, a freshman, took 12th in the event with a time of 1:02.39 while Cisneros placed 25th with a finishing time of 1:03.60. Clark also swam the 200 yd. butterfly, placing 53rd with a time of 2:23.71.
Cisneros, Vlasakova and Lemmen all swam in the 50 yd. freestyle, placing 40th and above.
Current Mustang swimmer Anja Carman took 15th place with a time of 8:58.39.
SMU’s only representative in breaststroke was junior Tamara Sambrailo, who placed 43rd in the 200 yd. breaststroke with a time of 2:42.48.
Over the holiday, the Mustangs will compete in the Kerr-Gee Elite meet in Oklahoma City, Okla. Dec. 14-17.
