Chris Jordan, a world-renown photographic artist and environmentalist, will be on campus today to present the Turner Construction/Wachovia Student Forum and The Oncor Electric Delivery Lecture as part of the Tate Lecture Series.
Jordan is best known for his large-scale works depicting American consumerism. Jordan’s extensive collections include “In Katrina’s Wake: Portraits of Loss from an Unnatural Disaster,” “Intolerable Beauty: Portraits of American Mass Consumption” and “Running the Numbers An American Self Portrait.”
Jordan’s work is “widely exhibited in the US and Europe.” He was the spokesperson for National Geographic’s Earth Day 2008 and has been featured in various television, newspaper and magazine spots. He is highly sought-after as a speaker on mass culture.
There are two chances to see Jordan on campus today. The Turner Construction/Wachovia Student Forum at 4:30 p.m. in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom is free and seating will be provided on a first come, first served basis. To guarantee seating, please arrive by 4:15 p.m.
For the evening lecture, students should come to the basement of McFarlin Auditorium with their SMU IDs at 7 p.m. Backpacks are prohibited. Dress is business casual. Tickets for faculty and staff are available for second balcony seating for $40 each.
