The Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity hosted former Oklahomagovernor Frank Keating to address current political and socialissues affecting the United States.
Keating gained national acclaim for his management during theOklahoma City bombing tragedy.
To a crowd of about 70 business students and faculty, Keatingrecalled the destruction Oklahoma faced during the bombing.
“I was in my office and felt the window tremble,”Keating said. “You could tell something was wrong.”
Keating said that although he remembers the agony and evil, healso remembers “most the enormous love and help expressed byAmericans.”
Keating, now in the insurance industry, stressed the importanceof becoming involved in public service.
“You can have all the education, be in the best business,but you can be dead in a second because of a stupidpolitician,” Keating said. “People need to educatethemselves and become active citizens.”
Keating, the only Republican governor to be re-elected for twoconsecutive terms in Oklahoma, suggested that citizens should worktogether and avoid creating an influencing class system in theUnited States.
He also urged students to begin saving and investing now toavoid unneeded stress and worries in the future.
“We are privileged to have the opportunity to have such aninfluential politician and businessman address our fraternity andbusiness school at large,” Delta Sigma Pi president AlexRitchie said.
Keating left the audience in hopes that people will prepare fortheir financial future and take action in their communities.
“Wave the flag, get involved. We need you,” hesaid.
