The Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) completed its popular “Preparing For Finals” series Thursday night for students looking for tips when it comes to studying for those big tests.
The finals lectures are small-group meetings held in the A-LEC office in the Loyd Sports Center to help counter fears and anxieties involving studying for and taking finals. An emphasis is placed on countering problems such as procrastination, anxiety and disorganization for final exams.
Roughly 20 students went to these meetings each day, with two or three meetings scheduled throughout the afternoon to cope with various individual scheduling differences because of differing course times.
One example of study skills taught during the series is the “Five-Day Test Prep Program.” The program is a diagram on how to focus on answering test-specific questions, locating exact source material for studying and examining the differences between challenging material and easy material. It also comes with a sheet so students can fill in their own personal courses and how they plan to attack the books before the finals.
