The University will remain open and hold classes regardless of the weather unless the President, in consultation with the SMU Police and Provost, decides that the conditions prohibit the possibility of staying open.
If the University is closed for the day, SMU officials will contact news media by 6 a.m. If evening classes are canceled, news media will be notified by 4 p.m.
If the University remains open, students, faculty and staff must report to their classrooms or offices as scheduled. If someone must travel from an area affected by severe weather and feels that it would be unsafe to get to campus, that person must speak with his or her department head or supervisor.
Staff members who are absent while the University is officially open must count their absense as vacation leave. Emergency service personnel are expected to report to work in any case.
