New York Fashion Week is coming to a close today, but the trends that were spotted on the runway will be seen through the fall.
Despite the economy, the runway has not completely come to ruins. Designers have definitely been cutting back on their collections and some even dropping retail prices. But, the show goes on.
Designers took into account the recession with more conservative styles to go along with the less flashy American lifestyle. The spotlight was on trends anyone can pull off and put together – whether you are purchasing the real deal or looking towards the runway solely for inspiration.
However the dismal economy was reflected on the runways with darker, Victorian era inspired fashions. Black lace, high neck-lines and designs that evoked the Belle époque of French fashion filled almost every collection.
Through black, black and more black, two bold colors – mustard yellow and cobalt blue – popped out in many collections. Both colors paired with black tights and accessories create a bright, fun, yet polished look.
Classic black and white also was a prevailing runway trend. The color combination has always been a perennial fashion favorite since and with shopping budgets tightening it is a look anyone can put together with clothing they already own.
Designers shifted into neutral with tan, beige, taupe, cream and camel. The look, that materialized this fall with celebrities like Kate Bosworth, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen bringing it to popularity, is clearly not dying down anytime soon. Pile on a variety of neutral tones or wear just one piece, either or your look dashing rather than dull.
