Meadows presents “Keyboard Festival,” five piano and organ concerts which will occur over the course of nine days. These concerts feature music faculty, guest artists and students from the Meadows School Division of Music. Here is the schedule for the festival:
Feb. 17 – 80th Birthday Concert for long-time Professor of piano Alfred Mouledous, featuring piano duets with Mouledous, students and alumni
Feb. 18 – Recital by Alessio Bax, Adjunct Lecturer and international concert artist, including works by Berio, Liszt and Dvorak
Feb. 19 – Piano Duo recital with music faculty Catharine Lysinger and David Karp and four Artist Certificate students, performing Beethoven, Poulenc, Schubert and Rachmaninov
Feb. 21 – Piano Duo recital with music faculty and special guests, including Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung; Alfred Mouledous and Lucille Chung; and Carol Leone and Regan Smith
Feb. 23 – Organ Recital by Dr. Christopher Anderson, Associate Professor of sacred Music, featuring the music of Max Reger and Gyorgy Ligeti

Thursday Evening Gallery Talk “Taking the Mystery Out of Ancient Metal Techniques”
Ellen Buie Niewyk, Curator of the Jerry Bywaters Collection on Art of the Southwest in the Hamon Arts Library, will give a free demonstration of how the Etruscans made jewelry. This demonstration, which corresponds with the current Etruscan exhibit in Meadows Museum, will occur on February 19 at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. Niewyk will begin by showing how a small silver ingot is hammered down and turned into intricate designs through a process called chasing. She will also discuss granulation and the use of wire in Etruscan chain crafting. For more information call 214-768-4677.

“The Etruscans in Context”
University Distinguished Professor of Art History Dr. Greg Warden will lead a gallery talk on February 19 at 6 p.m. inside the Meadows Museum. The gallery talk will focus on the current Etruscan exhibit. Dr. Warden is also Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Meadows School of the Arts. The event is free with regular museum admission of $8 per person; $6 for seniors; and free for children under 12, museum members and SMU students, faculty and staff. “A Night in Buenos Aires”
The Meadows Wind Ensemble will perform a showcase of Latin sounds on Feb. 20 in Caruth Auditorium in the Owen Arts Center. The Ensemble will play John Mackey’s “Redline Tango,” Michael Gandolfi’s “Vientos y Tangos,” H. Owen Reed’s “Mass,” two works by Astor Piazzolla, and Michael Daughtery’s “Red Cape Tango.” Tickets cost $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7 for students/SMU faculty and staff.
