Dear SMU Community,
As you may know, the Beta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Southern Methodist University has been suspended for three years. The senior members of our chapter would like to express our sincere regret for the actions that lead to these consequences. While we respectfully disagree with the punishment, the chapter did indeed violate the terms of its previous suspension and the rules of Kappa Alpha. We are frustrated with ourselves that we did not take advantage of the continued warnings and second chances provided by the University and the KA National Office.
KA at SMU has had a long and strong presence on campus that extends back nearly 100 years. We are truly proud of the role KA has played in the history of our great University. And above all, we genuinely appreciate the support of our friends, fellow Greeks and families in the past and during the last few trying days. To our former new members, we wish you all the best; you are an upstanding group of young men. To the other fraternities, we will miss our friendships as well as our friendly rivalries, whether on the intramural field or during rush week. But we do have one parting piece of sincere advice: please learn from our mistake. To the sororities, thank you for your friendship and support; we are convinced there are no finer ladies anywhere. Thank you to the alumni for your continued support and involvement with the chapter. Southern Methodist University has been a tremendous home for KA, and we support and admire the student body, the faculty and the administration for their commitment to social and academic excellence.
In conclusion, we would like to bring closure to this ordeal; this has been a difficult time for the members of KA, both undergraduate and alumni alike. As we move forward, we do appreciate the assistance from the University and all involved. Kappa Alpha Order is committed to returning to Southern Methodist University and will work together with the University to re-colonize the chapter and usher in a new era to a long and illustrious history. And most importantly, we are committed to helping build SMU into the top-tier academic institution we all want it to be-and are confident that it will become.
Sincerely,
Seniors of the Kappa Alpha Order – Beta Lambda Chapter
