A lot of people know the Comedy Central hit “South Park” as the show in which little kids say a lot of words adults would be ashamed to say and then put them together in combinations of brilliant creativity.
Regular watchers of the show know it’s also biting social commentary.
Nothing is sacred to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show’s creators. Those mocked mercilessly include Barack Obama, scientologists, Mormons, gingers, airlines, PETA, Santa Claus, Abraham Lincoln, Sally Struthers, AIDS, anti-smokers and many, many more.
This equal opportunity satire reveals the absurdities of our everyday life. I know they’ve certainly gone after groups and people I associate with; I laugh harder than anyone. I reconsider everything I believe in after each week’s “South Park.”
William Zinsser, author of “On Writing Well,” once said that humor is the best form of persuasion. “South Park” is among the best of the best of the genre and everyone should watch, laugh, and learn.
