After breakout performance against Tulane and UTEP, freshman Christine Elliott proved to the SMU community why she continues to be the team’s lone starting freshman.
Elliott earned the Conference USA Rookie of the Week title following the Mustangs’ conference Championship win over UTEP this weekend.
In SMU’s 61-49 win over the Green Wave, Elliott tied a 22-year-old school record with 21 rebounds. Paired with 16 points, Elliott had her third double double of her career.
The win against Tulane also featured Elliott as the leading freshman in rebounds, and put her in second place for most boards in a Conference USA game.
In Saturday’s win over the Miners, the Wichita, Kan. native had 15 points and a team high 11 rebounds, leading to her fourth double double.
Heading into the Conference USA Tournament, Elliott averages 15.5 points per-game, 16 rebounds and two blocks.
The 6-foot-2 post player earned her first conference honor just days before heading to New Orleans for the conference tournament.
