The No. 47-ranked SMU men’s tennis team moved its record to 4-1 last weekend after easily sweeping its four opponents at Dallas’ Bent Tree Country Club.
On Saturday, the Mustangs notched a 6-1 victory over Illinois State and a 7-0 shutout of Prairie View A&M. SMU dumped Division II foes Abilene Christian and Southeastern Oklahoma State by scores of 6-1 and 7-0, respectively, on Sunday.
The Mustangs dominated singles competition over the weekend, winning 23 of their 24 matches.
Robin Fahgen played in the No. 1 singles spot twice and cleaned up with victories over Illinois State’s Luka Morinkovic (6-4, 6-3) and Abilene Christian’s Juan Nunez (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Darren Walsh went 3-0 over the weekend in singles competition for the Mustangs.
Oivind Alver defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Ben Disley 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. He downed Abilene Christian’s Luke Hawk in No. 3 singles earlier in the day.
The No. 1 doubles team of Fahgen and Alex Skrypko dropped the weekend’s opening match to Illinois State’s Luka Marinkovic and Daniel Tobar, 8-6.
After dominating singles competition, Fahgen paired with Adham el-Effendi in No. 1 doubles to defeat Abilene Christian’s Joey Farias and Hutton Jones, 8-2, in Sunday’s final match.
The Mustangs travel north this weekend to face the University of Illinois-Chicago Friday and No. 11-ranked Notre Dame on Sunday.
