The Mustang Band will host the annual Pigskin Revue musical variety show, one of SMU’s longest-standing traditions, Thursday and Friday.
The Revue occurs as part of SMU’s Homecoming festivities and has been held every year since 1933. This year’s performance is the 73rd annual production.
This year’s Revue will include performances by members of the Eta Iota Sigma sorority and the Beta Upsilon Chi fraternity. The Mustang Band will perform several jazz pieces, and members of the band will present musical and dance numbers, as well as comedy skits.
“I am incredibly excited about being a part of the band and an act with HIS and BYX,” Andrea Norris, a member of both the Mustang Band and Eta Iota Sigma, said. “This is the first year since I’ve been here that outside acts have come in to perform with the band.”
Norris expressed hopes that the participation of outside groups would lead to “even more expansion [of Pigskin] throughout the campus. In a couple of years we can getà the programà back in McFarlin Auditorium like it used to be,” she said. Ã
In the past, the Pigskin Revue has been a prominent part of SMU’s Homecoming celebrations. The guest list has included people such as former “Sports Illustrated” model Cheryl Tiegs, actress Morgan Fairchild and entertainer Bob Hope. Musical acts such as the Happy Jazz Band from San Antonio and country music artist Jerry Jeff Walker have performed at the Revue, and SMU’s own Doak Walker was at one time the guest of honor.
“I love being a part of Pigskin,” junior Lindi Farris, the business manager of the Mustang Band, said. She added that this year’s goal is to “get the student body involved in Pigskin once again.”Ã
In addition to showcasing student talent, the Revue serves as a fundraiser for Mustang Band scholarships, according to a press release issued last week. This year the band “opened the auditions campus wide andà increased advertising,” Farris said. The band expects to attract not only alumni but potential students and members of the Dallas community, as well.
The Pigskin Revue will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Umphrey Lee Center. The show will begin at 8:30 p.m. both days, with a reception followed by a catered dinner on Friday. The Thursday Revue is $5 per person, and the Friday show is $10. If anyone wishes to attend the reception and dinner on Friday, a ticket for the full evening is $30.
