Campus Planning and Plant Operations is in the process of determining the cause for poor lighting outside the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.
The nighttime lights that usually shine on the Doak Walker statue are not working. The reason may be construction related, according to Bob Casagrande, director of plant operations and maintenance on campus.
“Anytime you break ground it’s inevitable that a line of some sort will be severed,” he said.
CCPO is working to identify the problem and restore power.
As planned, the Dedman Center’s permanent outdoor lighting will not be up and running until phase II is completed, Director Judith Banes said.
In other safety news concerning the new Dedman Center, CPPO is in its preliminary phase of conducting a traffic flow study to determine the need for a crosswalk to connect the Airline parking lot to the Dedman Center.
Casagrande said CPPO planned to conduct the study after the first phase of the center opened in order to calculate a more accurate flow of the traffic along Airline Street.
“It’s just one of those things that can’t be done properly until people begin to use the facility,” he said.
The parking lot adjacent to Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports has been repaved and CPPO is in the process of installing a swipe-card entrance to further campus safety.
In the past, students who parked in that lot fell victim to car theft and vehicle-related crimes.
The swipe-entry system will limit access to people with ID card authorization.
