SMU’s offensive production left much to be desired in last night’s 80-69 loss to Rice.
Janielle Dodds and Jillian Samuels carried the team with 24 and 16 points respectively. Dodds finished her double-double effort by grabbing 11 rebounds.
SMU trailed the Owls by just one, 35-34, at halftime, but the Mustangs didn’t make their first field goal until three minutes into the half.
The Mustangs also managed only three points after Jillian Samuels’ layup with 2:30 left in the game.
The loss was the third straight for SMU, which dropped its conference record to 3-4 for the season.
Katy Cobb, playing all but one minute of the game, scored five points, had five rebounds and five assists in the losing effort.
The Mustangs also got solid efforts from Alice Severin and Delisha Wills, who each contributed seven points.
SMU will look to turn the losing streak around Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs will face the Houston Cougars who are coming off a 70-54 win over Tulsa.
Earlier in the week, Houston fell to the same Rice team 70-56.
After the two-game road trip the Mustangs will return home to Moody Coliseum to face UCF on Feb. 1.
