Support the Mustangs – come to the Homecoming concert!
Program Council is one of the largest programming boards on campus, and is always diligently working to provide the student body with fun and appealing entertainment. As a member of Program Council, I have seen first-hand dedicated students striving to make the whole college experience even more worthwhile for their fellow classmates.
Many students don’t realize that these programs are put on with their money. If it were not for the students’ money, Program Council, Student Foundation and other student organizations would not be in existence. Since you are paying for these events, it’s only right for you to attend.
On that note, Program Council would like to invite you to come and enjoy yourselves and bask in the glory of what you have helped to contribute to by attending the Homecoming concert. The concert takes place this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in McFarlin Auditorium. We will be featuring Cowboy Mouth with guest Cary Pierce.
Don’t know who either of them are? That’s OK. Going to college is all about experiencing things you wouldn’t normally do. Yes, even attending a concert with people you may not have necessarily heard of is just another way to broaden your horizons. It’s not just a matter of attending a concert taking place at your school. It’s more about being a part of your school’s traditions. It’s the whole experience of attending Homecoming activities that take place not only at SMU, but also at other universities across the nation.
First-years, come out and see what makes SMU. Learn about the different traditions that take place here and have fun while you do it. Make this your home; you still have three and a half more years to go. Sophomores, if you didn’t come out last year, then it’s even more of a reason to come out this year. Juniors, you should be deeply involved with spreading school spirit. Bring a first-year and a sophomore with you and show them how to take pride in something they are a part of. And seniors, this is it. This is your last chance. That in itself is reason enough.
Despite what rumors may be out there, Cowboy Mouth is not country, it’s rock ‘n’ roll. Cowboy Mouth is a band with four members who were all previously leaders of other bands. Some may say a little bit of country, a little bit of rock-n-roll. This time, it’s all rock ‘n’ roll! Cowboy Mouth is a Southern alternative band from New Orleans. The main idea behind its music is to “take the basic foibles of human nature and turn them into lyrical rock ‘n’ roll … It’s fun, it’s danceable and it’s music that you will relate to.”
Cary Pierce is an SMU alumnus. He was formerly part of the band Jackopierce. Jackopierce performed at SMU’s block party in 1997. Cary Pierce will be performing hits from his new album.
This concert is not only for the SMU community, but for the general public as well. Tickets can be purchased at the Mane Desk for $8 with an SMU ID. At the door they will be $10 with an SMU ID. General public tickets can be bought at startickets.com, at any Albertsons location, or at 1-888-597-7827.
So, from the side of someone busting her butt to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone, I strongly encourage you to come out and support us, other student organizations, the Mustangs and your school. Come out, have fun, and get ready to rock ‘n’ roll!
