The SMU Equestrian team finished third in the Best of the West Tournament held at the Fresno State Student Horse Center on Sunday.
The Mustangs earned 21 points in the English riding portion, finishing behind Tennessee-Martin (36) and Fresno State (28) while defeating South Dakota State (15), Delaware State (10) and TCU (6).
SMU finished second in the three-team bracket, outscoring South Dakota State 5-1 in head-to-head competition for third place.
Kristen Collins, SMU, (86) defeated Erin Broussard (77) from SDSU in Individual Equitation on the Flat. Collins (80) also defeated Sarah Stirton (73) from SDSU and Kayleigh Karnbach (77) from Delaware State in Individual Equitation Over the Fences.
Melissa Kowalchik, SMU, (83) defeated Lindsay Harr (67) from SDSU and Kelsey Bullock (0) from Fresno State in Individual Equitation on the Flat.
Megan Davenport, SMU, (78) defeated Dakota Huzzen (55) SDSU in Individual Equitation Over the Fences.
The Mustangs will compete against New Mexico State Saturday March 17, at the Flower Mound Equestrian Center.
