Campus Alert: Man scamming women

SMU police are looking for a man using a scam to try to get women to pose nude.

Claiming he is a producer for MTV looking for women to pose for photos, the man using “Dean Kelly” as his alias has approached women in Moody Coliseum, the Park Cities Plaza and the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports. According to a campus alert, he tries to get women to pose nude when they arrive at the photo shoot.

“This is all the information we have right now,” Executive Director for News and Media Relations Kent Best said. “Basically we wanted to let the campus know that this is happening on campus. If you are approached, the best thing to do is to notify SMU Police.”

Included in the campus alert were several safety tips. SMU Police recommend that students be aware of their surroundings – especially in parking lots and garages.

If a student is meeting a new acquaintance, police say, “Let friends and family know where you are going. Consider a daytime meeting rather than a night meeting, and meet in a public place.”

Anyone who is approached by this man or has information related to the case is urged to call SMU Police immediately at 214-SMU-3388. Anonymous tips can be given by going online to smu.edu/2tip or by calling 214-SMU-2TIP.
