After surpassing its $750 million goal for the Second Century Campaign, the SMU Board of Trustees voted unanimously this morning to raise the goal to $1 billion. The goal is to reach $1 billion by Dec. 31, 2015, the end of the Centennial Celebration.
The campaign reached $780 million two and a half years before its scheduled end of 2015, prompting the board’s decision. SMU joins 12 other private universities with $1 billion goals.
President R. Gerald Turner made the announcement in Caruth Hall in front of students, board of trustee members, faculty, staff and community members.
