The No. 54 SMU women’s tennis team toppled two teams in a double-header Saturday. The Mustangs handed losses to both the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Prairie View A&M. SMU is now 14-4 for the season.

SMU started off against ULL, taking the doubles point and three singles wins for a 4-3 victory.

Natalia Bubien and Claire Reitsch won No. 1 doubles with a 9-7 victory over Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer. Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Reid defended the No. 3 doubles position and helped to secure the doubles point for the Mustangs.

In singles, senior Jennifer Chay beat Myrthe Molenveld in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

Freshmen Reitsch and Pavi Francis also took wins in singles at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

Georgiana Marta and Kristen Reid played No. 5 and No. 6 singles but were unable to overcome their opponents.

Next, SMU faced the Panthers of Prairie View A&M and beat them 6-0. The loss set PVAMU back to 4-13 for the season.

The Mustangs earned wins straight down the line from No. 1 doubles to No. 6 singles, leaving only No. 5 singles unfinished.

Chay played No. 1 where she earned her second victory of the season at that position. She’s 9-6 in dual matches overall this season.

Reitsch took a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Melissa Guerrier at No. 2 singles. The win advances her to 15-2 for the season in dual matches, still the best singles record on the squad. Francis also took a win at No. 3, making her 14-4 this season and 3-1 in that position. Marta and Neveklovska each defeated their opponents at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Reid did not finish her match at No. 5.

The Mustangs play the University of Arkansas today at the Garland Tennis Center. The Lady Razorbacks are 9-8 overall for the season and are coming off a 4-3 win over Ole Miss on Sunday.
