On Tuesday night at eight o’clock, Program Council (PC) and the Student Filmmakers Association (SFA) teamed up to organize SMU Fright Fest on the lawn between Airline garage and Annette Caldwell Simmons Building.
“We wanted to bring things about fall that we like back to campus,” said PC’s program chair Laura Sullivan.
With caramel apples, pumpkin decorating, popcorn and candy – Sullivan and the PC crew captured a few key highlights of the fall season despite the unusually high 72-degree weather.
To compliment the ‘taste of fall’ that PC offered, SFA featured a screening of Trick ‘r Treat, a 2007 Halloween horror flick.
When asked why this was the movie chosen, SFA’s vice president of development, Jackson McMartin said, “we had to have the rights for the film from Swank Motion Pictures and this one was on the list.”
Swank is a public performance licensing company for motion pictures seen in any public realm.
The movie was shown on a large inflatable movie screen accompanied by two large standing concert speakers.
McMartin said that they rented the entire set up – screen, projector and speakers – from a company called Fun Flicks, which is an outdoor movie screening rental company.
To top it off, Sullivan contacted Monster Energy Drink informing them about the event in which they sent a representative to promote their product.
“We don’t like to just advertise,” said Monster representative Justin Farless. “We like to put cans in hands to let people taste the product for themselves.”
Nothing puts you in the right mood for a horror movie than energy drinks and candy.
With the movie queued and the popcorn popped, everyone nestled up for a fright-filled night.
