A few months back, I heard through the grapevine that “fashion week” was coming to Dallas. Being the fashionista that I am, this small bit of information piqued my interest. After attending the press conference earlier this year, it became clear that Fashion at the Park was going to be huge.
The other day I had to run in the mall to pick up a gift for a girlfriend’s birthday. Then I saw the massive tent complex being erected where the valet parking for the food court normally stands. I was in awe at the sheer magnitude and opulence of the main tent. With its gathered black cloth ceilings and gargantuan U-shaped runway, it became apparent that the spectacle soon to take place was going to be the fashion event of the season.
Go into any store or corridor in the mall, and you will find large fuchsia signs publicizing the phenomenal shows to come. There is nothing more exciting than to be seated front and center at any runway show; who knows what celebrities you might bump into?
These next few days promise to set the standard for what appears to be the first in a long line of “Dallas Fashion Weeks,” but the only difference is that you won’t have to wait a full season to see if the clothes get produced. With Fashion at the Park, you can “shop the shows,” as they say in the industry.
