SMU’s Student Senate Scholarship Committee is introducing a new scholarship available to undergraduate students. The new Mustang Leaders Scholarship of $6,500 will be awarded to a student who demonstrates strong leadership on campus through participation in student organizations.
The scholarship was founded by an anonymous alumnus who served the SMU community as a student leader. All donors to the new endowment also serviced the community through student organizations when they attended SMU.
Scholarship Committee chairman Ben Manthey said, “The Mustang Leaders Scholarship is definitely a first because it is supported by its own endowment separate from the student association endowment. A brand-new endowment designed for student leaders – it’s unprecedented because it’s the largest one-time scholarship we give.”
