Tests confirm meningococcemia (infection of the blood stream) in SMU male student. The sophomore was hospitalized Tuesday morning for a suspected blood infection with Neisseria Meningitidis, which is the bacteria that causes meningitis.
The student’s test results came back positive for Neisseria Meningitidis. However, his spinal fluid cultures came back negative.
The student is a resident of Moore Hall.
