Spring Break shenanigans

Thank you, SMU student body, for being on your best behavior

Ed Board would like to congratulate SMU students for not making headlines during Spring Break. If only we could say the same to the rest of America’s youth.

While you were lying on the beach in Mexico, skiing in the mountains and sleeping in late, other students were getting themselves into a trouble.

Last Friday, a man jumped off a Carnival Cruise ship off the coast of Florida. Don’t worry, he was rescued eight hours later and only suffered from mild hypothermia.

It was reported that the man ran through a window on the ship and landed in the water.

A witness aboard the ship said the he was intoxicated. Ed Board would like to know who in his right mind would jump off a ship sober. Seriously?

Just a hop skip and a jump away from SMU in Grapevine, a 13-year-old girl was assaulted with a Taser gun by her peers.

The girl was at a friend’s house where she was given beer from a small keg and apparently became drunk and loud. Her friends used duct tape to cover her mouth and to tie her legs and arms together. They dragged her down in the basement and repeatedly Tasered her.

Where were the parents hosting the sleepover?

The sad answer: at home. That’s right, they were in the home where alcohol was being distributed to minors and where a young girl was assaulted by her friends.

This is certainly not the type of sleepover Ed Board remembers.

While we were playing at the beach, we noticed a number of older men carrying video cameras. Ed Board was disturbed by the creepy men who would pretend to shoot the scenery when they were really taking footage of the girls on the beach or in the water.

Thank you, SMU student body, for not being one of these creepy men, for not assaulting your friends and for not drunkenly jumping off any cruise ships.

We hope everyone had an amazing and safe Spring Break.

There are about six weeks left in the semester and for those of you with senioritis, we totally understand.

Hang in there, you’re almost done.
