Men’s swim team honored

The SMU men’s swimming and diving team competed in the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Minneapolis.

The Mustangs competed in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Swimming were Luka Vrtovec, Shane Milu, Alex Hetland and Thomas Fadness. The team finished 16th in the preliminaries and moved up to 13th place in the finals, finishing in 2:57.11.

Ian Clark competed in the 200-meter backstroke and finished in 39th place with a time of 1:48.13.

Vrtovec also competed in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing with a career-best time of 43.46 for a 19th place finish.

The final competitor for the Mustangs was Preston Holcombe in platform diving. Holcombe placed 25th with a score of 227.20.

But where SMU left its mark was on the All-American list. Seven Mustangs made the list: Clark, Hetland, Fadness, Milu, Pontus Renholm, Justin Smith and Vrtovec.
