Men’s golf continues play in Pinehurst Classic tournament

The SMU men’s golf team continues competition at the final round of the Pinehurst Classic tomorrow. The Mustangs (592) are currently in third place, just two strokes behind Michigan and Indiana (590), who are tied for first.

SMU has won both the team and individual competitions, held at The Centennial Pinehurst Course No. 8 the last two years. The defending champion is senior Colt Knost. Currently one under par and second behind Jorge Campillo who is four under par, Knost is 71-72-143 so far.

Behind Knost, teammate Scott Barton is currently in 15th place, tied for 148. The redshirt freshman opened with a 71 in the first round and continued with a 77 in the second. Senior Scott Sikes is in 23rd place after shooting 75 in both rounds for a total of 150. Tied for 41st place are SMU golfers Frank Wrenn (78-75) and Brandon DeStefano (76-77) with a combined scored of 153.

After the culmination of the Classic, the SMU men’s golf team heads to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the Robert Kepler Invitational.
