The Cowboys, amazing restaurants, Neiman Marcus— Dallas is known for many things, but haunted spots don’t usually make the list. But in the spirit of Halloween, The Daily Campus decided to share our top five Dallas ghost stories.
1. Snuffers Restaurant on Greenville Ave. – Numerous people have seen an unidentified ghost at this SMU student hangout. Wait staff have admitted to hearing the water in the bathroom turn off and on and one waitress even reported having moved all the condiments at the edge of the table and when she turned around, there were moved back to the middle of the table. Believers in the paranormal say that part of the restaurant’s remodeling included inviting an unidentified spirit into the building.
2. White Rock Lake- The Lady of the Lake has been seen at White Rock Lake and on the road by the lake. She is said to be dressed in a 1920′s evening gown and soaking wet – she asks drivers for a ride to a house on Gaston Ave. where she disappears leaving nothing but a wet stain on the seat. The story is that the Lady of the Lake was the daughter of a wealthy family in the 1920s. She was on her way home from a dance when her car wrecked in the lake – she drowned, but the others lived.
3. Majestic Theatre– Located at 1925 Elm St. the Majestic Theater usually plays host to the likes of Jay Leno, but some say that when no one is around, a ghost moves backdrops, operates phone lines and emits strange smells.
4. Lizard Lounge- Usually known for techno concerts and all-night raves, some patrons claim to have seen a “man in black” haunting the old audience seating area. Unknown spirits are also said to have wreaked havoc in the dressing rooms.
5. Lawrence Hotel- Located in Downtown Dallas, people have said they have often heard voices, footsteps and felt cold spots in the building. Supposedly back in the 1940s a woman fell from the presidential suite and it is said that she haunts the building.
