The Dallas Museum of Art is keeping the lights on late this Friday in its monthly “Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art.” The museum will hold events including live musical acts, film viewings and an open mic event for spoken word poetry until midnight. General admission for the event is $10 and under.
“Late Nights,” held on the third Friday of each month, will begin at 6 p.m. Different activities will go on simultaneously throughout the museum. This week’s event will celebrate springtime in Texas in conjunction with the exhibition “Bluebonnets and Beyond.”
Concerts and performances include Happy Hour with the Dallas Banjo Band ?at 6 p.m. in the Atrium, Music of the Texas Hills on Steel Guitar at 7 and 9 p.m. on the Level 4 Landing, Country Fiddle Music at 11 p.m., The Western Swing All-Stars at 8 p.m. in the Atrium and line dancing lessons at 10 p.m. in the Atrium. Fresh Ink, a lecture featuring Laureate Robert Hass reading his newest poetry collection and a spoken-word and multimedia performance by Will Richey will take place in the Horchow Auditorium at 7 p.m. The museum’s Seventeen Seventeen Restaurant will host the Late Night Open Mic hosted by Tisha Crear of Reciprocity featuring some of Dallas’ hottest poets and any audience members who want to share their own verses.
The museum will also show a screening of the Academy Award-winning film “Hud,” featuring Paul Newman, Melvyn Douglas and Patricia Neal at 9:30 p.m. in the Horchow Auditorium.
“Late Nights” also features events for the whole family, such as Yoga for Kids! at 6:30 p.m. and Bedtime Stories with Arturo at 7:30 p.m.
Tours of the museum’s ancient American galleries will take place at 7 p.m. There will also be a tour of the new exhibition, Either Side of Gray, at 9 p.m. Patrons can also watch local artist Cecy Turner demonstrate different watercolor techniques at 7 p.m.
Both the Dallas Observer and WBAP News-Talk 820 will be at the event giving away prizes.
