After 28 years, Meadows Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs Martin Sweidel is leaving SMU to become the senior vice president for strategic initiatives at Goucher College.
Sweidel will be joining former Meadows Dean José Antonio Bowen at the Baltimore college. He will take his new position Nov. 3.
In addition to his position as associate dean, Sweidel acted as the point person on Bain & Company. Currently, the Bain team is working on the Operational Excellence for the 2nd Century (OE2C) project, assessing and adjusting the campus budget.
According to an email sent by Meadows Dean ad interim Samuel S. Holland, Sweidel plans to quickly work with the OE2C team to transition his position.
“We will miss not only his talent, intellect and skills, but his infectious humor and his warm, humane presence among us,” Holland said.
While at SMU, Sweidel developed a state-of-the-art studio for electro-acoustic music in Meadows, served as chair of the Division of Music and as associate dean since 2007.
“My undergraduate experience was transformative and continues to have a profound impact on who I am becoming,” Sweidel said to Holland. “I want to give back and help a place like Goucher thrive as an option for future students.”
