After two disappointing losses to Baylor University and the University of North Texas, any hope for a decent football season is disappearing fast. With the next home games against powerhouses Texas A&M; and Texas Christian University, the chance of a win is as unlikely as winning the Powerball lottery.
Many students only attend football games to earn points toward a coveted spot in The Mob, the student group on campus that gets free tickets to the men’s basketball games. Unlike football, SMU hit the jackpot with its winning men’s basketball team.
Only 600 students are able to join the Mob, so students are attending as many soccer, volleyball and football games to earn points as fast as possible. Their willingness to stay for the entire game showing true spirit is the question some students are asking.
Junior Emily Johansson thinks that students who are trying to earn points won’t stay for the entire game. “I bet there will be a huge drop at halftime,” Johansson predicts. Needless to say, the countdown for basketball season has already begun.
