Campus construction continues

As the new school year begins, construction on campus continues.Here is an update on some of the key projects. For moreinformation, visit http://smu.edu/construction.

 

Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports

Location: Airline Road and Binkley Avenue

The student-funded, nearly 100,000 square foot expansion of thisfacility will include two basketball courts, an extended track, aclimbing wall, a bouldering wall, improved dressing rooms andfitness facilities, an indoor soccer field, swimming facilities andother improvements. The existing center, as well as the CincoCenter, will remain open throughout construction.

Expected completion date: expansion: Sept. 2005; renovation: May2006

 

James M. Collins Executive Education Center

Location: Binkley Avenue and Ownby Drive

This new facility will house Executive Education and provideoffices and classrooms for the Cox School of Business’Executive MBA program, the KPMG Institute for Corporate Governanceand the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking.

Be aware of increased truck traffic in the area and walk onsidewalks, not in the street. Ownby is one-way southbound betweenDyer and Binkley.

Expected completion date: March 2005

 

Perkins Administration Building

Location: University Boulevard and Boaz Lane

Renovations will provide new office space for variousdepartments, including Development and External Affairs.

Expected completion date: early Sept. 2004

 

Fincher Building

Location: between Bishop Boulevard and Ownby Drive in the CoxSchool of Business

Hallways, restrooms and the lobby are being renovated, includingnew carpet, tile and fixtures.

Expected completion date: early Sept. 2004

 

Dyer Street improvements

Location: 3000 block of Dyer Street

Preparations for the new Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Lambda ChiAlpha houses and a parking lot include rerouting Dyer to connectwith McFarlin Boulevard, utility work, grading the site, paving theparking lot and building an 8-foot brick wall along Dublin betweenDyer and University.

Be aware of increased truck traffic and construction activitiesbetween 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a jointproject between SMU and University Park.

Expected completion date: on Dyer: Oct. 2004; otherconstruction: summer 2005

 

Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Lambda Chi Alpha houses

Location: Dyer Street

These two new houses are scheduled to be built before theexisting houses and Letterman Hall on Binkley between Ownby andAirline are demolished in fall 2005 to make way for a parkinggarage.

Expected construction start date: Oct. 2004

Expected completion date: Aug. 2005

 

Sigma Phi Epsilon house

Location: SMU Boulevard

Renovations and additions include a redesigned floor plan andnew façade. The house will go from sleeping nine to 22.

Expected completion date: Jan. 2005

 

Fondren Science Building

Location: Daniel Avenue

Renovations included modern office and lab space.

Completed: summer 2004

 

West sidewalks

Should be completed by Friday

 

Lovers Lane detour

Location: Lovers Lane between Hillcrest Avenue and NorthCentral Expressway

This University Park project involves reconstructing the streetand utilities such as water lines and sanitary and storm sewers. Itwill also include new traffic signals at Boedeker and Airline, aswell as decorative streetlights at every intersection.

Expected completion date: Oct. 2005
