Former Mustang basketball standout Quinton Ross signed with theLos Angeles Clippers Wednesday. Details of the signing were notdisclosed per team policy.
Ross, who plays guard, was signed by the Clippers along withguard Lionel Chalmers from Xavier and Mamadou N’Diaye, aformer Dallas Maverick and Atlanta Hawk and graduate of Auburn.
Ross played on the 2003 Clippers’ preseason team averaging5.5 points per game. After his release shortly before the 2003-2004NBA season, Ross joined Telindus BC Oostende of Belgium. Whileplaying for the Belgian team he averaged 16.7 points and 4.8rebounds per game.
While at SMU, Ross’ skills propelled him to fourth on theMustang’s all-time scoring list. The 6-foot-6-inch Rossaveraged 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his 119-gamecareer at SMU.
As a senior Ross’ averages were even higher at 20.3 pointsper game. This stat was crucial in Ross’ 2002-2003 WAC Playerof the Year award.
Under head coach Mike Dunleavy, the Clippers finished the2003-2004 season 28-54 and last in the Western Division. The teamaveraged 94.8 points while giving up 99.4.
The team’s leading scorer, Corey Maggette averaged 20.7points per game last season. The Clippers start out the 2004-2005season at home in the Staples Center against the SeattleSupersonics on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
