Last tourney of fall for SMU

Heading into their final tournament of the fall season, the Mustangs will compete in the Baylor Intercollegiate Oct. 26 and 27. The invitational is held at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

Last year, the Mustangs earned seventh in the tournament, with then-freshman James Kwon finishing first individually.

“We have had the best fall season in five years,” head coach Jay Loar said. The Mustangs won their first two tournaments,, the Gopher Invitational and the Adams Cup, as well as placing third at the Lonestar Invitational last week.

Loar classifies the Baylor Invitational course as “the strongest field played this year.”

Twelve teams – including No. 8 The University of Texas at Austin and No. 12 Texas A&M – will host Baylor University and Iowa University.

“Our players are playing better this year,” Loar said.

A stronger finish is expected of the team this year since finishing second in Conference USA last year to the University of Central Florida. The player to watch out for is Kelly Kraft, ranked No. 16 in the nation by Golfweek.
