This week at Meadows School of the Arts, the dance department presents the Spring 2015 Brown Bag Series.

Students, patrons, and teens from Dallas-area schools pack the Owens Arts Center Lobby each day during the performance series to get a glimpse into the beauty of hard work.

“The versatility of the movements and the intricacy of the choreography set this performance apart from others,” says freshman Sound Director Caroline Langner.

The eleven individual pieces within the series were all choreographed, directed, and performed by SMU students.

“Out of about 80 dancers in the major, to be chosen to dance or have your piece performed in Brown Bag is a coveted thing for all of us,” says freshman dance major Margaret Gaenzle.

“Choreographers audition their pieces for the dancers,” dancer Hannah Hess says of the line-up selection process. “They will rehearse for 2-3 weeks then perform for the panel.”

The panel is a board of faculty members, which changes each semester.

Though this careful selection process, the panel is able to put together a variety of dance styles into a cohesive series.

“I didn’t really know what to expect coming into it. I’m stunned by the beauty of the dance and the fact that they put the whole thing on by themselves,” says advertising and fashion media major Emory Parsons.

The performance is being held Monday, Wednesday, Friday at noon and Tuesday, Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Owen Arts Center Lobby.

Feel free to bring your lunch. After all, it is named Brown Bag.
