Quick meeting for student senate

After being inaugurated, the 93rd Student Senate got right work Tuesday afternoon.

Meadows Sen. Katie White was appointed by Student Body President Taylor Russ, and confirmed by the Senate body.

Dedman II Sen. Jaclyn Durr is slated to become Senate parliamentarian, but because she is abroad this semester, has not been inaugurated. Russ said that once she returns in the fall semester, she will be inaugurated as a senator and he will seek the Senate’s confirmation as parliamentarian at the first fall meeting.

Dedman II Sen. Lulu Seikaly was nominated by the senate body and elected Speaker of the Senate.

The Senators who were elected to the new positions will give up their seats as senators, creating three vacancies. The candidates from Dedman II and Meadows in the general election who were not elected will be given the opportunity to take those seats before they are opened up for general appointment.

The Senate also nominated and elected five senators to represent them during the Summer Senate sessions. Dedman I Sen. Jonathan Lane, Dedman II Sens. Ben Hatch and Adam Rizzieri, Cox Graduate Sen. Will Wright and Engineering Sen. Reed Hanson will participate in the four Summer Senate meetings.
