While students are coming back to the Hilltop, construction is ramping up all around campus. Here’s a quick round up of the most recent projects. For more construction news, visit SMU’s project updates page.

1. Hillcrest Avenue – This construction is part of the Water Line Improvement Project. As the city of University Park improves its underground water pressure, various lanes on Hillcrest will be closed, which will cause traffic for students who live in nearby apartments. The city believes that this project will be completed by mid-September.

2. Mockingbird Lane – Over the summer, construction crews made the pathway from the new tennis complex to the main campus more pedestrian-friendly.

3. Park Cities Plaza – The parking lot in the shopping center is being repaved. All businesses are still open, but it might be difficult to access some of them. The project is broken up into thirds. The western third is already completed and the middle third is currently under construction. Each segment takes about one month to complete.

4. Student Health Center – Last year, the health center was located at the old Chi Omega house, but this year it will be located in Perkins Hall behind Bridwell Library. The Memorial Health Center was torn down after the spring of 2014, and the Dr. Bob Smith Health Center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016. It will be located where the old health center used to be, in the north quad between Virginia-Snider Residential Commons and Mary Hay Residential Commons.

5. Harold Clarke Simmons Hall – This addition to the School of Education is scheduled to conclude near the end of 2015. The signature cupola has been installed, and the building was conditioned on Aug. 10. The majority of bricks have been placed on the south and west sides, with workers catching up on the north side of the building.
