Mustang Brief

The last time SMU students witnessed a football game in Ford Stadium was nearly one month ago. Now, after dropping their last two games to Washington State and TCU, fans are finding every excuse to not attend this Saturday’s game against East Carolina. Fortunately for them, and unfortunately for the team and university, SMU gave students the perfect excuse to miss more football games with Fall Break and Thanksgiving break coinciding with home football games.

I’m not sure if this was taken into consideration when the football schedule was put together, but for a program that is doing everything it can to increase attendance, this is a major mistake. I understand there are several stipulations behind the planning of each school’s schedule, but it seems that rather than hosting games when students are away and playing in consecutive road games, there is a huge disconnect when it comes to establishing a fan base. Pony down.
